2002 DATA SYNOPSIS

Data was collected as part of a basinwide synoptic sample event in April, July and September. All three events included the following field chemistry parameters: temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and conductivity. In addition, field observations were generally made for rainfall, stream flow and turbidity. Grab sample collections varied by seasonal priority and are detailed by event below.

The spring sample event occurred on April 27th with 54 sites reporting. Of these sites, 38 were found to be exceeding the Kentucky surface water standard of 400 CFU/100ml for fecal coliform bacteria. Grab samples were also collected fo triazine herbicides with 14 sites showing dectections of this compound. The complete results can be found at this link.

The summer sample event occurred on July 27th with 51 sites reporting. Grab samples were collected for the following: sulfate, chloride, total phosphorus and nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N). The complete results can be found at this link.

The fall sample event occurred on September 14th with 43 sites reporting. Of these sites, 21 were found to be exceeding the Kentucky surface water standard of 400 CFU/100ml for fecal coliform bacteria. The sites were also anaylzed for e. coli bacteria with 12 sites indicating levels that exceed the Kentucky surface water standard of 240 CFU/100ml for this pathogen. Grab samples were also collected for sulfate, total phosphorus and ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N). The complete results can be found at this link.
