2001 DATA SYNOPSIS

Data was collected as part of basin wide synoptic sample event in May, July and September. All three events included the following field chemistry parameters: temperature, conductivity, pH, and dissolved oxygen. Field observations were generally made for rainfall, stream flow and turbidity.

Grab samples were collected at each site and were analyzed for various parameters based on seasonal priority. These results are detailed below by sample event.

The spring sample event occurred on May 5th with 66 sites reporting. Grab samples were collected for fecal coliform bacteria as well as selected nutrients, sulfate, and chloride. A few sites were selected for anaylsis of metolachlor and triazine herbicides. A total of 10 sites were found to be exceeding the Kentucky surface water standard of 400 CFU/100ml for fecal coliform bacteria. The complete results can be viewed at this link.

The summe sample event occurred during the period of July 13-18 with 67 sites reporting.  Grab sample were collected for fecal coliform bacteria as well as selected nutrients, sulfate and chloride. A total of 16 sites were found to be exceeding the Kentucky surface water standard of 400 CFU/100ml for fecal coliform bacteria. The complete results can be viewed at this link.

The fall sample event occurred on September 14th with 55 sites reporting. Grab samples were collected for three pathogen indicators: total coliform, fecal coliform and e. coli. Of the sites, 11 were found to be exceeding the Kentucky surface water standard of 400 CFU/100ml for fecal coliform bacteria and 4 were found to be exceeding the standard for e. coli. No surface water quality standard exists for total coliform.  Additionally, grab samples were collected for the following: chloride, nitrate, sulfate, barium, cadmium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, lead, magnesium, ammonia, and phosphorus. The complete results can be viewed at this link.
